Character cakes for kids by Art Eats Bakery

Art Eats Bakery Greenville, SC

I love making sculpture cakes. These two kids cakes where so much fun. Most people that saw them didn't even realize that they were cakes until they were told. Everything is edible. The wizard and his table are cake covered with fondant. the jars, candles, moons and stars are sugar paste and the books are chocolate with white chocolate pages. The sleeping beauty cake has a cake mattress and fondant beauty, bedspread, rug and roses. The bed frame is sugar paste that is dried and the painted with food color to look like wood grain. Cakes have come a long way from butter cream swirls. I make my own fondant and put real scratch made butter cream under it, so it taste good. Most butter creams in other bakeries is shortening and sugar and doesn't even have real vanilla. It doesn't make sense to have a beautiful cake that isn't wonderful to eat.

Fall leaves fondant wedding cake by Art Eats Bakery

This week I got to do a really fun wedding cake. I had a Bride and Groom that were getting married at Table Rock park. They wanted a cake that would reflect the fall theme and chose to have fall leaves on their cake.
I made the leaves out of sugar paste and a bow for a topper. The sugar work has to be done several days ahead to dry. I then airbrushed them with brown, orange, red and yellow. The boarders are sugar pearls.

Upcountry history museum pig birthday cake

Saturday October 4, 2008 was the Upcountry History museum's 1st birthday celebration. They have 3 pig statues in the museum and wanted me to recreate one in cake for the birthday party. He was a lot of fun and a lot of work. My brother built the structure from wood and styrofoam for his legs and belly. From his bottom jaw up, he is carved vanilla cake. We covered it with fondant and airbrushed it with food coloring. The board was covered with royal icing to resemble the mud that the pigs are walking through. Before it was delivered, we carved a potato to get the shape of the bottom of a hoof and made foot prints in the mud. I was told that he was a huge hit and everyone really like him. I didn't get to stay for the party and my brother said he was glad he didn't see him get cut up and eaten. We put some long hours in to get him done, but he was cake and I'm glad he was enjoyed both to look at and taste!

Fondant cameos, flowers and pearls wedding cake

ART EATS BAKERY

I know you have heard about fondant cake icing. What you have heard is that fondant taste terrible. Well it is true if you are tasting factory made fondant. It has a plastic taste and texture.
We make our own fondant and white, milk or dark chocolate fondant. It has a softer texture and a good flavor. We use real vanilla and fresh ingredients. We also make our own butter cream icing. It goes under the fondant to help it stick to the cake and add flavor. If you want pure white, we have to use clear imitation vanilla. It still tastes a lot better than the bought kind.
We do sculpture cakes and artistic cake designs that can not be created we butter cream alone.
We do a lot of open cake tastings at David's Bridal and Demitra's Dress Emporium. Please check our website for dates and times.

First birthdays with planes in the clouds

ART EATS BAKERY

This fondant covered red velvet cake was for a little boy's frist birthday. The airplane cake was made to look like a toy plane and the side cake had blue cream cheese icing and white royal icing clouds.

As the outside of cakes have changed, so have the inside. Gone are the dry white sponge cakes of the past. Now people are choosing what they really love to eat. It could be chocolate fudge with caramel and butterfinger candy bars or Amaretto with Kaluha butter cream. Each tier can be a different flavor with any filling you can dream of. At Art Eats Bakery we make all of our cakes and icings from scratch and we only use the very best fresh ingredients. Even our fondant is scratch made and tastes great. It can be made in lots of flavors. Our cakes are all butter cakes and our butter cream is also made with fresh butter. Art Eats Bakery, Greenville, SC http://www.arteatsbakery.com/ sales@arteats.com

Fondant college anuals Groom's cake

ART EATS BAKERY

This cake was created for a Groom who attended Clemson University, UT Austin, and Cornell University. The cakes even look like they have pages in them. The Clemson cake has an orange tiger paw, UT Austin a Longhorn and Cornell a bear paw and the building is on the cover.

As the outside of cakes have changed, so have the inside. Gone are the dry white sponge cakes of the past. Now people are choosing what they really love to eat. Clemson Tiger paw graduation cake

ART EATS BAKERY
I had a lot of fun making this fondant covered Clemson tiger paw graduation cake. I love to carve a cake into the shape I want freehand. This was a big 10" X 6" cake and it really stood out. The reason it has the sheen is because I airbrushed it with orange food color. The cake was a red velvet with cream cheese filling. I always want the cake to taste as good or better than it looks. If you have an idea for a cake that is unusual, I can create it. I love to do anything that's different. As the outside of cakes have changed, so have the inside. Gone are the dry white sponge cakes of the past. Now people are choosing what they really love to eat. Cake tasting at David's Bridal

Saturday I had a cake tasting at David's bridal on Haywood Road in Greenville, SC. It was very well recieved and I will be doing it again soon. Please check my website for dates and times.
I made vanilla butter cake with vanilla icing, red velvet with cream cheese icing and chocolate fudge mocha with vanilla icing. The biggest complement I get is when they first taste my icing. It does not have any shortening or powdered sugar in it. It is made with real butter and a mousse' base. It's very light and not real sweet. I think most people have not had real scratch made butter cakes and icings from a bakery. You all should have a taste.
You don't have to be a bride to attend the tastings. I look forward to meeting you. http://arteatsbakery.com sales@arteats.com

Dog yappy birthday

ART EATS BAKERY
Last night I went to my first doggy birthday party . It was held at the Barkery Bistro on Main Street in Greenville SC. I created a carrot bacon and chicken cake for the birthday boy ( Bentley - a 4 year old Golden retreiver). It turned into a big bash with about 40 people and their pets. I was really amazed at how well behaved all of the dogs were. There were all sizes and breeds. There were no fights even when when the cake was served. Every one had a blast and really enjoyed the cake.

Wedding cake contest

Well I know I said I was going to post each tier of my dummy cake for a contest in September. I forgot to do it. Here are the first 4 tiers. It has sugar flowers, pearls, crystals, and cameos. They are all handcrafted by me and edible. I like to use sugar art decorations instead of things that are not edible.
I may not finish it for a while. I found out that my son is getting married on the day of the contest. I hope there will be another close by sometime soon. The only other big one that I knowof is in Tusa Oklahoma. I don't think I can get to that one this year. http://www.arteatsbakery.com

I sometimes make a cake to try out design ideas and want to see what you think. This is a fondant covered cake that I designed with sugar sculpture heart and flowers. The flowers have royal icing pearls for the centers and the hearts have royal icing pearls and Fleur de lis. The top has orange royal icing pearls in the shape of hearts and pink flowers. Let me know if you like it or have some suggestions.

Gamecock graduation cake

ART EATS BAKERY
This fondant cake was for a USC student. The Gamecock colors are garnet and black. I didn't really think I could come make it fit the colors without looking too dark and drab. In the end I was really proud of it and I think they were very happy with it. It's hard to tell in the photo, but the sugar sculptures have a pearl finish on them and so do the pearls on the border.

I have been very busy the last two weeks and have not started my competition cakes. I did a cake for an AIDS dinner fundraiser and two for a big party that was held for everyone who attended one of the individual dinner parties. These parties were held in the homes of people all around town. I did not attend any because I had so many cakes to do, but I've been told that they were all a big hit and raised a lot of money for AID UPSTATE. I hope everyone will find that even if you are not in a position to donate cash, there are lots of ways to help your local charities. These 3 cakes were a joyful donation.

The 3 tiered square cake on the left was chocolate fudge and the bottom tier had mocha Kahlua mousse butter cream. It was decorated with embossed red fondant ribbons, red sugar sculptures and silver pearls. The 3 tier round cake was amaretto with vanilla mousse butter cream. It was decorated with silver pearls, red fondant diamonds, circles and hearts. It had wire sculptures with red decorations on them. http://www.arteatsbakery.com/
This 3 tier square cake has antiqued red baroque sugar sculptures, red ribbons and sugar pearls.

This is a present cake for a girl's party with chocolate fondant, pink polka dots, sugar ribbons and flower.

Art Eats bakery

I have always loved baking, art and sculpture. I never decorated my cakes until last year when I started watching the Ace of Cakes show and the Cake Challenge show on the food network. I was thrilled to lean that cake decorating doesn't have to be gooey icing and old fashion decorations. In this blog I hope to share some of my creative designs with you and get some feed back as to what you like.

3 tier wedding cake with starburst, doves, pearls and drapes. All decorations are edible.
I am going to be entering some contest and shows over the next few months and will be posting the pictures of my dummy cakes. These are Styrofoam cake forms that you decorate just as you would a cake. The icings are a type that will dry and they can be kept almost forever. They weigh a lot less than cake and are easier to trans port to the events. My plan is to show you each of the tiers as I decorate them and see what you think about how they look together.
