Character cakes for kids by Art Eats Bakery

Art Eats Bakery Greenville, SC

I love making sculpture cakes. These two kids cakes where so much fun. Most people that saw them didn't even realize that they were cakes until they were told. Everything is edible. The wizard and his table are cake covered with fondant. the jars, candles, moons and stars are sugar paste and the books are chocolate with white chocolate pages. The sleeping beauty cake has a cake mattress and fondant beauty, bedspread, rug and roses. The bed frame is sugar paste that is dried and the painted with food color to look like wood grain. Cakes have come a long way from butter cream swirls. I make my own fondant and put real scratch made butter cream under it, so it taste good. Most butter creams in other bakeries is shortening and sugar and doesn't even have real vanilla. It doesn't make sense to have a beautiful cake that isn't wonderful to eat.

Fall leaves fondant wedding cake by Art Eats Bakery

This week I got to do a really fun wedding cake. I had a Bride and Groom that were getting married at Table Rock park. They wanted a cake that would reflect the fall theme and chose to have fall leaves on their cake.
I made the leaves out of sugar paste and a bow for a topper. The sugar work has to be done several days ahead to dry. I then airbrushed them with brown, orange, red and yellow. The boarders are sugar pearls.

Upcountry history museum pig birthday cake

Saturday October 4, 2008 was the Upcountry History museum's 1st birthday celebration. They have 3 pig statues in the museum and wanted me to recreate one in cake for the birthday party. He was a lot of fun and a lot of work. My brother built the structure from wood and styrofoam for his legs and belly. From his bottom jaw up, he is carved vanilla cake. We covered it with fondant and airbrushed it with food coloring. The board was covered with royal icing to resemble the mud that the pigs are walking through. Before it was delivered, we carved a potato to get the shape of the bottom of a hoof and made foot prints in the mud. I was told that he was a huge hit and everyone really like him. I didn't get to stay for the party and my brother said he was glad he didn't see him get cut up and eaten. We put some long hours in to get him done, but he was cake and I'm glad he was enjoyed both to look at and taste!

Fondant cameos, flowers and pearls wedding cake

ART EATS BAKERY

I know you have heard about fondant cake icing. What you have heard is that fondant taste terrible. Well it is true if you are tasting factory made fondant. It has a plastic taste and texture.
We make our own fondant and white, milk or dark chocolate fondant. It has a softer texture and a good flavor. We use real vanilla and fresh ingredients. We also make our own butter cream icing. It goes under the fondant to help it stick to the cake and add flavor. If you want pure white, we have to use clear imitation vanilla. It still tastes a lot better than the bought kind.
We do sculpture cakes and artistic cake designs that can not be created we butter cream alone.
We do a lot of open cake tastings at David's Bridal and Demitra's Dress Emporium. Please check our website for dates and times.

First birthdays with planes in the clouds

ART EATS BAKERY

This fondant covered red velvet cake was for a little boy's frist birthday. The airplane cake was made to look like a toy plane and the side cake had blue cream cheese icing and white royal icing clouds.

As the outside of cakes have changed, so have the inside. Gone are the dry white sponge cakes of the past. Now people are choosing what they really love to eat. It could be chocolate fudge with caramel and butterfinger candy bars or Amaretto with Kaluha butter cream. Each tier can be a different flavor with any filling you can dream of. At Art Eats Bakery we make all of our cakes and icings from scratch and we only use the very best fresh ingredients. Even our fondant is scratch made and tastes great. It can be made in lots of flavors. Our cakes are all butter cakes and our butter cream is also made with fresh butter. Art Eats Bakery, Greenville, SC http://www.arteatsbakery.com/ sales@arteats.com
