1) Check their DHEC rating and Liability insurance. Most people baking from their homes don't have either. This may not seem important, but if they don't do your cake as you ordered, you will not be able to get any pay back. The worst scenario is if your guest become ill from the cake, they could sue you instead of the insurance company.
2) The next step is to see if they are available for you date.

3) Have a cake tasting. Be sure if you are going to use fondant, that you try it at the tasting. We make our own fondant and it tastes good and stays soft. Every bought fondant we have tried taste terrible and gets hard.
4) Once you have decided on a bakery, be sure you have a detailed contract that leaves no room for error.
5) Call your baker a few days before the wedding and go over the contract to double check everything.
6) If you are going to pick up your cake, ask the baker what kind of room do you need in your vehicle. Be as early as the baker and venue will allow. This will give you ample time for slow driving and if anything goes wrong, you will have time to get it fixed.
7) Be sure that the reception site will have someone there to guide the delivery person to to cake table.

We make all of our cakes and icings from scratch with real butter and other natural ingredients.

Learn the art of cake decorating

Birthday presents cake with sugar sculpture ribbons, pearls, heart tiara, earrings and lipstick.Square white fondant wedding cake with red sugar sculptures and sugar pearls.

Art Eats Bakery is now accepting applications for apprentice positions. This is a free of charge learning opportunity. Working with this bakery you will learn more about artistic cake decorating than what you would learn in pastry school without the thousands of dollars out of pocket. The apprentice will learn baking and cake decorating by working in the bakery for three to six months. If they have the talent and skill they will receive a paid position. There is no prior experience needed. I really looking for someone with artistic ability.
We bake and decorate a lot different from most bakeries. We do a lot of wedding and birthday cakes. Our specialty is designing one of a kind cakes that look like works of art.

Wedding cake contest

Well I know I said I was going to post each tier of my dummy cake for a contest in September. I forgot to do it. Here are the first 4 tiers. It has sugar flowers, pearls, crystals, and cameos. They are all handcrafted by me and edible. I like to use sugar art decorations instead of things that are not edible.
I may not finish it for a while. I found out that my son is getting married on the day of the contest. I hope there will be another close by sometime soon. The only other big one that I knowof is in Tusa Oklahoma. I don't think I can get to that one this year. http://www.arteatsbakery.com
